"Decompression"
In her show, "Decompression", the past and the present collide as Margo's signature underwater surrealism style comes up for a breath of fresh air – combining her underwater world with the haunting dry land.
I recently began volunteering at the Great Lakes
Aquarium in Duluth, MN. I prepare meals for the fish - then dive
in the 3 large tanks (Isle Royale exhibit). While in the tanks, I
feed the fish & help clean the inside of tanks.
Great Lakes Aquarium's 85,000-gallon Isle Royale exhibit contains
fish that you would find swimming in the deeper waters of Lake
Superior near Isle Royale. The tank is divided into 3 sections
and forms the center exhibit of the Aquarium.
Icebox Quality Framing & Gallery is included in
the new "Treasures of Minnesota" table top book published
by Morgan & Chase. Margo's work is mentioned in the section about
Icebox.
Icebox presents an exhibit of color images of the
Seychelles by artist Margo Cavis. This collection of photographs,
both above and below the blue waters of the Indian Ocean, were taken
during Margo’s recent Marine Conservation Expedition in the

"I
look for an artist creating unique thought-provoking artwork. The
media doesn't matter; how well it will sell doesn't matter. The
artwork must feel ripe and ready to pick. The experience is what
is important. A quality exhibition of a body of work will allow
the artist to move on. Without an exhibition a artist can remain
in a holding pattern, never experiencing the pressures of public
and critical viewing. An exhibit, like a mirror, gives the artist
a chance to look at who they are from three feet away." -Christopherson
Margo's studio in Cyprus 2004
Diving on the Zenobia wreck inspired these 2 paintings.
Margo
spent the summer of 2004 living in Cyprus with her 6 year old son.
They lived in an art school that was set up like a youth hostel....
except not as nice. It took the whole first week in the country just
to locate the art supplies, but the studio space was great - with
tall ceilings an lots of natural light. In-between painting, Margo
was able to spend many days diving. The water in this part of the
Mediterranean is extremely clear. Unfortunately they have severely
over-fished, so there is not a huge amount of underwater life, although
there are still octopus to be found. Margo's main interest in diving
in Cyprus was to visit the Zenobia Wreck. This amazing wreck became
the focus of her diving and of her paintings.
